Peach (Prunus persica) belongs to the family Rosaceae. It is native to China. Peach is the third most important temperate fruit next to apple and pear. China is the largest producer of peaches in the world. The botanical name persica came from Persia (now Iran) where it was introduced from China by silk traders in the third century BC.
